How I am slaughtering Eczema

by admin on August 4, 2009

About 3-4 months ago I had these two red areas show up on my calf. They didnt start out itching, and they stayed about the same size. About an inch in diameter, each. About a month and a half ago they began itching and getting larger till they joined up together. Then, I began having the same thing show up on my other calf. Before I knew it they had spread up behind my knees. I was miserable. I could feel it every time I walked. It slowly started spreading up my thigh, and down to my feet. My dad and a good friend of mine both have the same thing, diagnosed as Eczema.

After researching Eczema and reading how people saw it come back stronger than ever after getting off the medication, I decided that I wanted to slaughter it and help my body heal itself. Now, before I move on, I want to tell everyone in the audience that I do not encourage people to NOT go to the doctor. I think that if you have something going on, you should get it diagnosed professionally. In my case, it was my choice not to do that and I wanted to go a different route. Just please know that I recommend that you go to a doctor if you have something going on. I’m not a professional. I’m just a really cool guy that likes to do things a little different.

Ok, moving on. From the research that I had done, I could see that eczema, like so many other skin conditions, was just a symptom of a much larger problem. In most cases, its your intestinal health. I began reading how alternative healthcare professionals highly recommended taking a probiotic for eczema. Knowing this I decided to go one step further. Here is what I did and what I’m taking. It’s possible that not everything that I did was necessary, but I like I said, I wanted to slaughter this eczema thing.

1. Overhauled my diet

I knew that at least for the next week and a half, I wanted to give my body the best chance it could to nip eczema in the butt. So, I quickly banished all processed foods, wheat/gluten, sugar, etc, from my diet. I began eating more raw veggies and fruits. For the first few days I did hardly any solid foods at all. I did a lot of juicing. I began drinking more water. Every other morning I did a fruit smoothie with mixed frozen berries from Costco, Soy Milk ( I actually hear that soy milk is not that great for you, so I’ve switched to rice milk…at least ditch the dairy during this time ), Hemp Oil, and Honey. I went to the health food store and got some packets of Miso soup(make sure its the healthy kind, not the kind with all the chemicals and MSG). Miso has probiotics already in it.

I added Hemp seed oil and Garden of Life’s new Omega 3 Cod Liver Oil. I remember reading on a forum that Cod Liver oil was the only thing that could keep this one lady’s kid’s Eczema at bay. So, I began taking at least 3 spoonfulls of that a day. I also made sure to take at least 3 spoonfulls of hemp oil a day. Omega 3′s are really important when it comes to eczema. Here is a little Q and A from the Oprah site on it: http://www.oprah.com/article/omagazine/200712_omag_katz_eczema

Another crazy thing I did was buying Goji Berry Juice by Genesis. I read that some people had success with drinking Goji Berry Juice for Eczema. So I thought I would give it a shot. Make sure to pick a Goji Berry Juice that has as much Goji Berry as possible, and no other fruits. Genesis has the best one. $26.95 on special at Super Supplements.

All of the solid foods you eat during this time, make sure you chew chew chew and even take a good enzyme to help your body break it down even more. Another great source of excellent oils are seeds. I love raw pumpkin seeds, so I grabbed a bagful of those at the healthfood store. Whatever seeds you buy, make sure they stay refrigerated.

dr-schultz-5-day-colon-cleanse2. Dr. Schulze’s 5 Day Colon Cleanse

At the same time that I changed my diet, I almost immediately started Dr. Schultz’s 5 day colon / bowel cleanse. Its a great little kit you can pick up at Herbdoc.com. He first focuses on getting your bowel moving, and then has you take supplements that grab all the toxins and sweep them out. Make sure you follow the directions. As not getting your bowel moving first could lead to misery. This is, in my opinion one of the best cleanses out there. All of his products are the highest quality, wildcrafted, and fairly affordable. Remember, drink lots of water!

primal-defense3. Probiotics

At the same time that you start everything else, start on a good probiotic. Even though you are cleaning your colon, make sure that you take a probiotic at the same time. Dont give the bad bacteria a chance to take over once your colon is clean, start taking probiotics before or at least at the same time that you do your colon cleanse. Then, continue taking some form of probiotic in your diet. As far as probiotics go, you get what you pay for. I bought the probiotic from Garden of Life which is called Primal Defense. It seems like a solid product. The story behind it with Jordan Reuban, the owner of Garden of Life, is pretty cool. Follow the instructions and gradually get Primal Defense into your system. This will probably help you the most in the long run.

4. Bless your skin

Your probably thinking that its about time I got to the topical skin part. I have tried a lot of things on my skin: Aloe Vera (hurt like crazy after it dried on my skin), Aloe Vera Oil(felt good, did not hurt when it dried), Vitamin Lotion(whatever, not bad), and all other kinds of alternative skin things. The thing that helped the most on my skin… was virgin Coconut Oil from Nutiva. The first time I put that on my skin was like taking a breath of fresh air. It was amazing. It just melts on your skin, doesnt hurt, and I could tell a difference in how my skin looked after it dried compared to the others. It did not seem to be as irritated.

5. Oatmeal Baths

Sounds crazy, I know. In fact I hated it initially because my open sores had a tendency to hurt and itch really bad after I got out of the tub and dried…but the bath will feel amazing on your skin. If your skin is inflamed, you should definitely see it cool down in the oatmeal bath. Take an oatmeal bath at least once a day. Grind up oatmeal in your blender till its almost like flour. Get enough for 1-2 heaping cups. Get a hot bath going and mix the oatmeal flourness into it. Just sit still for a while and let the oatmeal bath heal your skin. I always found this a relaxing time from my day to pray, and give thanks to God for all the blessings in my life. It feels good, and has definitely been one of the best things for my skin.

6. Exercise

I think this goes with a lot of illness’s. Get your blood flowing! Since my legs were the main thing being affected, I decided to start running and doing leg workouts to really get the circulation going through them.

7. Miscelaeneous

One thing I notice that helps is making sure my skin gets sunlight. Vitamin D is amazing stuff, and in my neck of the woods we dont get enough of it. Make sure that if your like me and only get nice warm weather for part of the year, that you get out in it while you can!

Take a good multivitamin. Always good to make sure your getting the proper vitamins. Vitamins and Minerals can play a big part in getting your skin better.

The Results

I’m so so happy and thankful to God to say that after following the above plan for a week, I have 1/3 the eczema I did a week ago. I expect the last 1/3 to leave in another week. I hardly even notice it now. I no longer have to wear half-socks on my legs to keep them from weeping and oozing all over my pants. I hardly itch at all. I’m a free man! I hope you get the same relief.

Some other things to consider in your battle with Eczema is food sensitivities. From what I understand, blood tests are not always the best. For though you may not be allergic to something, you can be sensitive to it. The best way to find out what you are sensitive to is to follow an elimination diet. I will be starting an elimination diet next week and hope to post about it.

God bless.

WOW! Your story really “hits home” with me! Our little guy has struggled with severe Eczema and food allergies since he was a baby. It has been a loooong road of trial and error for him and lots of sleepless, itchy and bleeding nights. Awful to say the least. We did go to an allergist who did several of these “NOT ACCURATE” blood tests and only saw one treatment option for his little body- steroids. We trusted his advice until we saw how weak and lethargic he was becoming and we knew we need to find something to help him that was SAFE!! After many creams, empty promises, doctors, etc we finally found a probiotic as well! He started taking the Vidazorb kids chewables and it has been AMAZING for him. He is a different child now…he can eat all kinds of foods and looks and feels great! It has been an answer to prayer- we LOVE Vidazorb and are so grateful for this miracle in our life! He loves to chew them, they do not need refrigerated like others, and best of all- they WORK! Like you, we do still avoid some sensitivities and he bathes in baking soda, oatmeal and/or pure olive oil (he’s has a nut allergy and though coconut is a fruit- we still avoid it). I have found natural oils to really feel great for him too without the burn. Our family eats lots of whole foods and we have all decided that we want nothing to do with processed junk any more. Sooo…I agree with you on these great suggestions and am glad you have found relief as well!
